The 2026 FIFA World Cup is in full swing, but there are no games on the schedule today (Wednesday, July 8).
Although there have been matches almost every single day since the tournament first kicked off in June, there are no matches happening on this day.
Dozens of matches have been played so far in the tournament, and 8 teams remain out of the 48 that originally entered the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This leaves exactly 40 teams eliminated and out of the competition.
The tournament is heading into its final stretch, giving the remaining teams a chance to recover after weeks of nonstop travel, training and multiple matches en route to the quarterfinals.
The quarterfinals will take place this Thursday, Friday and Saturday. There’s going to be another rest day on Monday, July 13 before the semifinals on July 14 and 15. The final then takes place on July 19.
Here’s the full schedule this week…
Thursday, July 9

Friday, July 10
