Actor Hal Williams has died at the age of 91.
If you are not aware, he was best known for playing Officer “Smitty” Smith on Sanford and Son and Lester Jenkins on the television series 227. He also starred as Sgt. Ted Ross on the Private Benjamin TV show and appeared in numerous other television shows and films during a career that spanned more than five decades.
His manager, Zna Portlock Houston, told TMZ that he died from natural causes on Wednesday (July 15) at his home in Rancho Mirage, Calif. He had been dealing with recent, unnamed health issues at the time.
He was apparently feeling fatigued after returning home from Ohio just about two days ago. He had been attending a reunion for Sanford and Son with co-star Howard Platt.
No other details were made public at this time.
We’re sending our condolences to Hal Williams‘ friends, family, and loved ones during this difficult time. RIP.
