Tickets for Avengers: Doomsday. went on sale on July 20, nearly five months before the movie’s December 18 release, but the advance sale is currently focused on Infinity Vision-certified screenings.
The launch of Infinity Vision is timely, as moviegoers are still scrambling to find Christopher Nolan‘s Greek epic The Odyssey in IMAX 70mm.
Disney first announced Infinity Vision at CinemaCon in April. Despite how the name sounds, it is not a new projection format. It is a certification for existing premium large-format auditoriums that meet Disney’s requirements for screen size, projection brightness, and sound.

The best way to find out if there is an Infinity Vision-certified theater near you is to head to the website and search by your city or zip code.
In short, this does not appear to be a similar situation to the scarcity caused by the IMAX 70mm theaters, with significant more Infinity Vision theaters available already, but tickets will still likely sell out fast.
How many Infinity Vision locations exist, and why the current total is unclear
According to a report by Deadline released in April 2026, there were only 75 theaters in the United States that were Infinity Vision-certified, with 300 abroad.
However, the numbers on the official website to purchase Infinity Vision tickets share significantly more locations in the United States, so it seems the number is increasing nationwide and will continue to as more theaters become Infinity Vision-certified.
How do theaters earn the Infinity Vision certification?
In order for a theater to become certified, they must have a screen that is 45 feet wide, minimum, and immersive sound like 7.1 sound or Dolby Atmos. Theaters must have brightness levels reaching either 14 footlamberts in 2D and/or 6 footlamberts in 3D.

It’s important to note that Infinity Vision is not a new technology. It is a certification that a theater meets “the high standards for screen quality, sound, and projection.”
What is the difference between Infinity Vision, IMAX, and Dolby Cinema?
The main difference is that Infinity Vision is not a technology with custom hardware but a quality-assurance program. IMAX and Dolby Cinemas require a custom theater format while Infinity Vision is a technical badge.
Infinity Vision doesn’t include unique aspect ratios either, like IMAX does. It’s a checklist that theaters can see if they qualify for, which is why there are significant more Infinity Vision theaters available than something like IMAX 70mm, which requires very specific equipment and handling.
Why isn’t Avengers: Doomsday opening in domestic IMAX?
The reason Avengers: Doomsday is not opening in IMAX domestically on its opening weekend is because Warner Bros. secured an exclusive window for Dune: Part Three.
Both films are releasing on December 18, 2026 and because Dune nabbed the date first, Warner Bros. was able to get a three-week domestic IMAX hold.
To get around it, Disney has opened advanced ticket sales, all the way back in June, and launched Infinity Vision.
Infinity Vision will be available for other films
According to the FAQ, Infinity Vision will be available for the Avengers Endgame: Encore and Doomsday, but upcoming releases will follow.
