Development on a planned Monopoly movie is moving forward!
According to Deadline, multiple new takes are in the works to figure out what the direction of the movie will take.
Lionsgate, Margot Robbie‘s LuckyChap, and Hasbro Entertainment are partnering with A Minecraft Movie duo Neil Widener and Gavin James and Dumb Money team Rebecca Angelo and Lauren Schuker Blum to come up with ideas.
Insiders have said that the project is still in its early days and it’s unclear which direction the final production will take. As of right now, Deadline says the companies have been “presented with two outlines and will commission one script from there.”
Lionsgate has been trying to get a Monopoly movie off the ground for more than a decade, with their most recent efforts following its 2023 acquisition of eOne from Hasbro. Hasbro retained the rights to its biggest IPs, like Transformers and Dungeons & Dragons, but offered Lionsgate the right to develop Monopoly.
LuckyChap joined the project back in 2024 after the huge success of Barbie.
Hasbro is also looking into developing an unscripted Monopoly series for Netflix with Studio Lambert, the team behind Peacock’s hit show The Traitors.
