It has been over a year since we last had an update on the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings sequel, and we finally have a semblance of news on the Marvel movie.
The first film was released in 2021, starring Simu Liu as the superhero, and months later it was revealed a sequel was confirmed.
Writer and director Destin Daniel Cretton is returning in both roles for the sequel, and in a newly released interview, he provided an update on what’s going on in with the second movie.
Is Shang-Chi 2 still in the works?
While appearing on Deadline’s Crew Call podcast, Destin shared that the Shang-Chi sequel is still happening!
“We are developing a second one… [the 1st movie] was successful… After [COVID], there were just crazy changes all over the place. So [the delay is] just a result of the industry,” the filmmaker said.
Last we heard about the movie was from Simu back in early 2025, when he said that there was still a sequel in the works.
Prior to that, in 2023, the actor said the movie had been pushed back.
While we await for the Shang-Chi sequel, we’ll still get to see Simu suiting up as the character in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday!
