Lizzo is reacting to a viral message on social media.
The 38-year-old “Sexy Ladies” singer responded to a post shared by a user on Sunday (June 7).
“lizzo not having a fanbase is so weird to me when this woman was literally selling out arenas not even 2 years ago. like, where did those people go?” they wrote.
“I actually can answer this: the industry changed so much in the last 3 yrs,” Lizzo responded.
“Streaming replaced radio & I was a radio darling. That’s how my fans discovered my music. Not to mention the very obvious & public attack on my career changed things. But I’m out here doing my absolute best and u can’t knock a bitch for that.”
“Just sang ‘Don’t Make Me Love U’ to a stadium last night and got a standing ovation,” she added in another post that shared the amount of streams she received on new studio album, Bitch, released Friday (June 5).
In a new interview with USA Today, Lizzo explained that the album gave her the opportunity to reconnect with herself.
“I don’t think I have to redefine myself. I think this is about reclaiming who I am,” she shared. “A lot of my identity has been manipulated by people outside of me, so this album is me taking that back — showing the Lizzo everybody knows and loves, letting her tell her side of the story and just letting her play again.”
She also discussed why she chose such a bold title. Find out what she said.
