Building on a thought from @isagc about ZHAN ZHAO ADVENTURES, I’m checking out some of the older dramas produced by Daylight Entertainment Productions (think NIRVANA IN FIRE, MING LAN, RESET, GEZHI TOWN). This production house is recognized for quality dramas.
A squee for the vividly harrowing, close combat scene in ep. 19, the BATTLE OF CHANGSHA (2014). This older cdrama stars an excellent Wallace Huo, a very young Yang Zi with a phenomenal performance by Ren Cheng Wei — an actor I’ve not witnessed before. While the production seems somewhat dated, the compelling “history” entirely makes up for that. Daylight Entertainment values storytelling; it is a through line from their earliest productions right to ZHAN ZHAO. I’m highly entertained, and that is a rare quality I value over all.
