The live-action remake is now playing in theaters and critics have not been kind to the movie, giving it a 37% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Some complaints have noted that the film is nearly a shot-for-shot remake of the animated movie without giving a new vision for the beloved story, which leads to questions about why the movie needs to exist. At the same time, critics are praising the performances and the visuals.
