Ex-gangster Ji Sung jumps into Apartment politics

Three months is all Ji Sung (The Judge Returns) needs in JTBC’s newest caper comedy Apartment. With 10 billion won on the line, our hero infiltrates a residential complex in order to win over the people of the building, but as he delves deeper into the community, he uncovers a bigger fraud happening in secret.

The teaser begins with an introduction to ex-gang boss Park Hae-kang (Ji Sung). Known for his impeccable money-lending record, he can get back any loan from anyone and proudly says that only amateurs rely on blackmail without thoroughly searching first. Of course, his methods still include threats and violence with his latest victim being Kim Won-hae (The Practical Guide to Love).

As Hae-kang and his crew dangle the debtor over a building, the man claims to know where to find money. He tells the loan sharks about long-term maintenance funds, and apparently, there is an apartment with 10 billion won.

Thus, a plan is hatched. With his men (and fake family) by his side, Hae-kang enters the apartment building and runs for committee president. Trading in their black suits for bright pink jackets, Hae-kang does his best to gain his neighbors’ votes with song and dance, but his henchmen and fake wife Ha Yoon-kyung (Undercover Miss Hong) think his tactics are excessive. Luckily, he only needs three months to grab the funds and make his escape.

While not featured in the teaser, the cast also includes Park Byung-eun (Dear Hongrang) in an antagonistic role as a penthouse resident and Moon Sori (When Life Gives You Tangerines) as a nosy neighbor.

Directed by PD Jo Yong-won (Missing Child) with scripts by Kim Yoon-young (My Strange Hero), JTBC’s Apartment is slated for 12 episodes and premieres July 11 in the weekend slot with streaming available globally through Netflix.
