Just Jared got to sit down to chat with Jerry O’Connell about Big Brother!
If you don’t know, Jerry is a BB superfan, and he’s also the newest host of Big Brother: Unlocked. He co-hosts the show every other Friday on CBS alongside Taylor Hale and Derrick Levasseur. If you don’t know, Taylor and Derrick are both past winners.
During our wide ranging discussion, Jerry shared a lot of his hot takes for BB28 so far.
He discussed his choice for America’s Favorite Houseguest, what annoys him about Rick Devens, which 3 contestants he thinks have too much “hubris,” a moment he found way too “gloaty,” and made a statement that he noted might “offend” Survivor fans.
In addition, Jerry told JJ what his wife, Rebecca Romijn, said to him after Rome‘s statements about Lyric during last night’s episode.
He’s voting for Taylor for America’s Favorite Houseguest: ‘I’m voting 15 times for Taylor’
Yeah, still don’t know why Taylor [put her vote on Melody and not Rome]. She just rode with Rome. By the way, Taylor, who was on the block [and then] came off the block, had a quiet week. I think Taylor is going to go far in this game. I think she just, early on, made a commitment to Rome and I think Taylor is a very trustworthy person.
And it made me really, really like Taylor. I mean, listen, BB fans, we’re all voting for [America’s favorite house guest.] Yeah. America, you can vote for favorite house guest. Honestly, I’m going to vote. I think the maximum times you can vote is 15 times. I voting 15 times for Taylor.
He saw “nerd love” between Barrett and Mallory
When I saw Barrett and Mallory at the table, by the way, I saw some like nerd love happening there…So I’m sorry if nerd is a derogatory term, but I mean, that’s what it is. She’s a rocket scientist and he’s kind of…an overall wearing nerd.
But by the way, he’s tough when he has to be. Remember like this week when Rome was like, oh, not Ashley, F you, Haley. And Barrett immediately was like, ‘Don’t talk to her that way, man. Don’t you talk to her that way.’ He got all alpha. Yeah. Come on, man. That’s uncool.
Why he’s not on the ChatBCC App
If you don’t know, ChatBCC is an app where lots of past BB houseguests chat about the season, and fans can participate and read commentary.
You know, as one of the hosts of Big Brother Unlocked, not as an alum of Big Brother, I’ve never, I have been inside that house. I did do the wall challenge and I won it by the way…I’m allowed to speak a little more freely. Okay. I’m not on Chat BCC. I don’t have to worry about what I say.
I’m like the the third wheel on Unlocked, like i hear them talking about Chat BCC and I’m like, guys I can barely get through these live feeds now i have to join something called Chat BCC…but is it just like nudies and stuff? I’m too afraid to join these things. It’s not like OnlyFans or anything, right? It’s nothing like storming the Capitol or anything, right?
His thoughts on Rick Devens’ HoH
I thought he had a very successful HOH. In the sense that he could sort of pin it all on Angela. Like everything that happened, the tidal wave that occurred this last week. It was a great HOH.
And by the way, we love Devens. I mean, that guy came in, and it’s so funny. I remember him from Survivor as the guy who…Remember he rolled the dice in that one thing? Like he’s like a risk taker.
He’s a gambling man, like ‘L-I-N,’ apostrophe there, gamblin’ man.
He shook it up. And it worked. And by the way, from the way I look at it, Angela took all the heat this week.
What annoys him about Rick Devens’ behavior
Something that annoys me a little bit about him he licks his fingers when he eats. Every time they looked at him he was like… this is like nitpicky stuff and this is why I should not watch the live feeds, but I noticed when he was eating in his suite he always licks his fingers and it’s just it’s a me problem. It’s not a Devens problem.
I was going to mention it on tonight’s episode of Unlocked. And I was like, it’s too negative. Don’t say it.
The “hubris” of the icons, and why he can’t wait to see them on the block
I do have to tell you the hubris of the icons [Dee, Angela, and Rick]. One problem with Rome going home is, I think he was the only one who was willing to put the icons up. I cannot wait for the episode where all three of them are up.
The hubris I’m seeing from the icons right now, I do find it to be grating… I want to see the icons scared a little bit….I can’t wait to see the icons up on the block because I want to see them sweat a little bit.
He found Angela’s goodbye speech to Rome “gloaty”
America’s gonna really disagree with me on this because i know…Angela was voted America’s Favorite last week and everybody loves Angela…Her exit interview to Rome, it was a little gloaty for me. It’s gloaty and I gotta say Big Brother is a great lesson for life. Don’t dance on people’s graves. Don’t find joy in people not doing well. It’s very negative. Big Brother is life. That sort of negativity, it’s bad karma man, it’s just bad karma.
His statement that might “offend” some people
I’m gonna offend some people now. I’m a Big Brother guy. I am not a Survivor guy. I’m sorry. And these Survivor people think they can come into this house. Wow, my coffee really kicked in. And they think…I’ve done it on Survivor. Survivor is more intense. It’s only what, 28 days? Big Brother is 90 days, man. This is a different, this is, this is it. Okay. Survivor is just like a trip to the moon. We’ll circle the moon. Big Brother is the trip to Mars. It’s the trip to Mars. You’re getting cryogenically frozen and going deep into space, deep into the solar system. It’s just a different monster.
He’s begging Lyric not to enter another showmance
I guess I have a dirty mind just seeing Lyric and Chuk work out together after Lyric and Rome’s “breakup.” There better not be another showmance with somebody in that house. Rome’s heart, I don’t think Rome could handle that because Rome, as of today, is a civilian. If Rome has to watch Lyric cuddle up to somebody…don’t do it, Lyric! Please be faithful to your man, please please don’t do it.
What Jerry O’Connell’s wife, Rebecca Romijn, had to say about Rome last night
If you don’t know, Jerry has been married to model and actress Rebecca Romijn since 2007!
“Rome was so in love. We get to interview him tonight on Unlocked and he is smitten. Of course, I come home and my wife was like ‘why can’t you be like that?’” Jerry told us.
