A spokesperson for Sen. Mitch McConnell is speaking out amid his latest health woes.
On Thursday (July 2), a spokesperson for the 84-year-old Kentucky Republican shared an update on how the Senator is doing as he remains in the hospital.
“Senator McConnell appreciates the outpouring of support he’s receiving while he continues his recovery in the hospital,” the spokesperson shared with CNN. “The Senator continues to improve, and is working closely with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters while the Senate is out of session.”
McConnell has been in the hospital since June 14 and his office has not yet publicly disclosed the cause.
The new statement from his office comes following the release of an EMS recording that indicated emergency responders were called to McConnell‘s home in Washington, DC, for an “unconscious” person the same day he was hospitalized.
In the audio, the dispatcher says the call is for a “cardiac arrest” and a paramedic is heard saying, “CPR in progress.” McConnell‘s name is not mentioned in the recording, but the address paramedics responded to is known to be his.
McConnell has faced a number of serious health issues in recent years and he was hospitalized earlier this year for “flu-like” symptoms.
