Bilaal Salaam wants to question Will Smith under oath.

According to new filings acquired by People, Salaam is representing himself in court and wants to depose his former friend amid his lawsuit against Will‘s wife Jada Pinkett Smith.

Has Will Smith actually been subpoenaed?

In an email sent out on July 7 containing court documents, Salaam requested Will provide testimony in a deposition, but Jada‘s team responded to say “there is nothing to meet and confer about.”

They clarified that Will has not been served a subpoena. Jada‘s lawyers also called out the art historiographer for his “untimely responses,” and said he had not provided enough evidence.

What Bilal Salaam alleges happened in 2021

Salaam, who is also known as Brother Bilaal, originally alleged Jada physically threatened him after confronting him in the lobby of the Regency Calabasas Common in September 2021 at a private birthday party for Will.

He claims to have suffered emotional drama, reputational harm, financial loss, and physical health issues. He also alleges that they launched a smear campaign against him and sought $3 million in damages.

She denied wrongdoing and filed an anti-SLAPP (strategic lawsuit against public participation) Act motion to get a dismissal of some parts of his lawsuit. In May, Jada scored a win in securing a court order that required Salaam to pay almost $33,000 in attorney fees and legal costs.

In the newer court documents, her lawyers say evidence is still missing like requested recordings and medical documentation, along with motion to compel.

What happens next in the case

The next hearing for Jada and Salaam‘s case will take place on August 19. Thus far, the court has denied his request for a trial.

Find out where things stand between Will and Jada today, years after separating.
