NewJeans is preparing for a long-awaited comeback.
The group – currently made up of members Minji, Hanni, Haerin, and Hyein – announced a “2026 Summer of NewJeans” campaign after months of well-publicized legal disputes with their agency, ADOR.
Former member Danielle left the group after terminating her contract with ADOR amid an ongoing damages lawsuit filed by the company.
The “Super Shy” girl group made headlines at the end of 2024 by holding an emergency press conference announcing their intent to leave ADOR, alleging a breakdown of trust, mistreatment, that ADOR and parent company HYBE failed to protect them, and retaliation against former CEO Min Hee-jin. ADOR and HYBE have disputed many of the members’ claims. (See a full timeline of the drama.)
The members briefly promoted under the name NJZ, but a South Korean court later granted ADOR’s request for an injunction restricting their independent entertainment activities amid litigation over the validity of their exclusive contracts. The dispute subsequently led to a hiatus.
Danielle said in a livestream at the start of the year: “I fought till the end to be with my fellow members. There always is NewJeans in one side of my mind. This is not the end but the beginning.”
ADOR later announced that the remaining members traveled to Denmark in April 2026 to film new material.
“The visit to Copenhagen…was part of the preproduction process to capture NewJeans‘ new musical narrative,” the label said in a statement, via The Chosun Daily. “The members are currently preparing for activities according to schedules optimized for their individual conditions.”
