Lin-Manuel Miranda is revealing a major MCU role he turned down.

The 46-year-old Hamilton creator made an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, where he revealed what happened.

“I was doing the math. You did say once that you turned down a Marvel role in the summer of 2016 when you were leaving Hamilton. I did my due diligence. I did some research,” Josh said. “I’m going to guess it’s Spider-Man: Homecoming.”

After Lin-Manuel confirmed that it was, Josh inquired further.

“And then part-wise, is it like Martin Starr‘s role?” he asked, referring to the character of Roger Harrington.

“I would have been so miscast. It’s not Martin Starr,” Lin-Manuel said.

“Is it Vulture?” Josh asked.

“It’s Vulture,” Lin-Manuel revealed.

Kevin Feige told me the entire plot over the phone, and I was like, ‘Oh.’ Then they get to the door and it’s her dad, and I went, ‘Oh!’ on the phone.”

“Again, you’re the canary in the coal mine,” Josh said.

“I was really the canary in the coal mine. And I said, ‘When does it shoot?’ And he goes, ‘Basically the moment you step off stage in Hamilton.’ And I went, ‘Well, I love these movies, but I would really like to stay married. So I cannot do this.’ I mean, God, that would have been terrible.”

“No, it would have been great in a different way,” Josh countered.

“No, Michael Keaton was perfect. They found exactly who they needed. I’m very glad because Michael Keaton was perfect. I have no regrets. I needed a vacation so badly. I think I would have been deeply miscast.”

In Spider-Man: Homecoming, Vulture is the film’s main villain, portrayed by Michael Keaton. The shocking twist comes when Peter Parker arrives to pick up his date Liz for the homecoming dance and discovers that her father is Adrian Toomes, aka Vulture, leading to one of the MCU’s most memorable reveals.

Find out who Tom Holland would choose as the next Spider-Man.
