The Five Star Weekend is already earning rave reviews.
The new Jennifer Garner drama series hit Peacock on Thursday (July 9), starring D’Arcy Carden, Gemma Chan, Regina Hall, Chloë Sevigny, Harlow Jane, and Timothy Olyphant.
The cast also includes Rob Huebel, David Denman, Josh Hamilton, West Duchovny, Judy Greer, Tory Devon Smith, Morrison Keddie, and Roberta Colindrez.
The series is “centered on Hollis Shaw (Garner), a famed cook and best-selling author known for her delicious recipes, impeccable taste, and warm demeanor, who suffers a devastating loss.”
Here’s a synopsis: “Unable to move forward, the death starts to expose the cracks in Hollis’s picture-perfect life—her strained marriage, her complicated relationship with her daughter, and her growing pursuit of validation from her fans. In an effort to overcome grief and find herself again, Hollis gets the idea to host a weekend away at her house on Nantucket with three friends from different stages in her life: her childhood, her twenties, thirties, and one surprise fifth star. Set against a luxurious and coastal backdrop, the stars will mature in ways they could never imagine as boundaries are pushed and secrets are exposed.”
The show already started off to strong reviews. But will it be getting a second season?
The Five Star Weekend has not yet been renewed for Season 2, but the showrunner wants to do more seasons.
Showrunner Bekah Brunstetter recently spoke out about the potential for more seasons in an interview with TheWrap, including exploring the relationship between Hollis and Jack (Timothy Olyphant).
“My hope is that if we get to do more seasons, I can dig into that a little bit more, because the first season is definitely the story of her grief — I’m really interested to see what their relationship would actually be like once they have the second chance,” she explained, adding details about what the pitch was for more seasons.
According to the showrunner, the producers are interested in each season following the characters in a different vacation destination, and potentially a “new fifth star.”
“They could go on vacations forever,” she teased.
“You could just find someone who really wants to do it, some amazing actor who’s really interested in doing this, and … talk to them about what they want to play and what they feel like their strengths are and what they’re interested in,” she speculated, adding that it won’t be Gigi (Gemma Chan).
“She’s not going to be coming on the weekend, but I don’t think she’s gone forever,” the showrunner noted, adding that Electra (Judy Greer) wouldn’t be the fifth either, but maybe she can be a running gag, and “no matter where they are, she shows up.”
Stay tuned as we wait to hear whether the show will get another season.
